It all began with an idea to see if we could unite the city through dance.
abc4Utah News Morning Show
We started with coffee shop posters and ended with a spot on the morning show but we didn’t stop there. We just had to throw a live, on-air dance party before we left.
“All we need is music, sweet music
There'll be music everywhere
There'll be swingin', swayin' and records playing
and dancing in the street”
Martha and the Vandellas
What is the key element for human connection on a city wide dance parade?
Play!
It becomes a magical part of the adventure. Games such as creating a human dance tunnel and conga lines to doing the robot or strutting down a catwalk runway. We host both silent disco’s and speaker style parties. Participants listen to a special DJ Mix track and are given instructions for activities and games played at different locations along the route.
Everything is specially curated, from the music and games, to the locations along the route!
Silent Disco
We sync’d everyones phones and MP3 players to the custom DJ music mix. While we were groovin’ to the music in our headphones, the rest of the world had no idea what was going on since only we could hear the music.
“That look on a strangers face goes from utterly perplexed to joyous” - Cori Blue
The Route
Why did the JOYMOB cross the street? To bring the party to the other side!
We moved through the streets as one, cars stopped and cheered, onlookers joined in, and strangers became friends along the way.
No street party is complete without your own private crossing guard! Our friend, Newton, dressed in a cape and an official party hat to hold traffic while we crossed safely.
Our Farmers Market JOYMOB debut!
The best place to play on a hot day, the Gateway Mall fountain.

Special thanks to all the dancers who keep showing up, who chose courage over comfort, and created a brave space for everyone to express themselves in their own unique way. You are brilliant!
